Another check which is unfortunately late.

March 18, 2011

3:45 PM

Detailed Weather:

Wind -
  • Extremely light breeze.  I could tell there was wind there, but it was not enough to make a huge difference
  • Beaufort Scale: 3
  • North: I confirmed this by bringing a compass and recording the correct direction
Clouds -

  • The sky was completely clear.  It was a beautiful day with no clouds whatsoever.
  • color: NA
  • type: NA
Temperature -

  • Air: 72° Fahrenheit
  • Fahrenheit to Celsius:

C = (72 - 32) x 5/9

C = 40 x 5/9

C = 40/1 x 5/9

C = 200/9

C = 22.22222222222

  • 22.2222222° Celsius
  • Water:  The water was is no longer frozen because the temperatures are getting increasingly warmer.  The water temperature was 49° Fahrenheit:

C = (49-32) x 5/9

C = 17 x 5/9

C = 17/1 x 5/9

C = 85/9

C = 9.4444444

General Observations:

Measurements -

  • Bur oak tree branch - 51
  • inches to centimeters conversion -
2.54n = c

2.54(51) = c

c = 129.54

  • bur oak tree branch = 129.54 cm
  • water depth: 13 inches:
    • inches to centimeters conversion -
    2.54n = c
    2.54(13) = c
    c = 33.02 cm
  • water temperature: 9.44444° Celsius

Biota -

  • 2 bur oak trees
  • common white-tailed dragonfly
  • American squirrel
Differences from previous months -

  • Seasonal changes:
    • The temperature is starting to increase, and I went to my ecosystem with no coat.
    • The water is back, and measurable.
  • my bur oak tree "measuring branch" is growing more quickly because things are beginning to become alive again.
  • I saw a squirrel scurry up a tree, the first real animal I've seen even from the beginning of the year.
